Permission has been received from
the Diocese to install the British Legion banner in the Chapel.
It will be installed alongside the Memorial Book and War
Memorial Plaques.
A welcome letter for new residents of the village has now been produced
and will be left in the Church corridor for people to take for
posting through doors, along with a copy of the Dever
News.
The 102 year old Mission Church or "tin tabernacle",
offered to the ?>Weald & Downland
Open Air Museum, Singleton, Chichester in 2006, has been re-erected, repaired and restored by the museum’s curatorial team. While the exterior looks smart
in its new green paint, the interior features some of the original
pine wall-cladding, and has been furnished in the simple style it
would have had in 1909. South Wonston Parochial Church Council (PCC)
kindly donated the original alter and its frontal cloth together
with the hymn board and candle stand, while the Museum purchased
chairs, a harmonium and a lectern. A “new” font which will be a copy of the
existing font will be made for the Church in the Museum Craft
Centre.
The Revd. Bob Clarkson, led a party of
parishioners to see the Duke of Gloucester perform the opening
ceremony on 5th April. As only such a few people were allowed to attend on the
day, it has been suggested that there might be a church outing later
in the year to the museum, details may be announced
later.
The museum website has an article on the event, visit their
website and look at the News page www.wealddown.co.uk
